Settings

All settings live under WooCommerce → IOSS → Settings. The setup wizard fills the essential ones; this page explains each in full.

Registration

  • Establishment country — where your business is established. Drives the registration/intermediary guidance shown in the wizard and is part of the setup-complete check. EU members are pointed at the OSS sibling plugin for intra-EU sales; that does not block IOSS use (an EU business dispatching from outside the EU is in scope).
  • IOSS number — your IM-format number. Validated for format only — 12 characters, IM + 3-digit country code + 6 digits + check digit; no public validity lookup exists. Stored on captured orders and, with Pro, passed to shipping integrations. See Registration and intermediaries.
  • Ship-from country — where goods are dispatched from. Orders shipped from inside the EU are excluded from IOSS (that is OSS territory).

Checkout

  • Charge VAT at checkout — the master switch for the checkout side. On (default): qualifying carts are taxed at destination rates via the IOSS Import VAT tax class; non-qualifying carts are made VAT-exempt. Off: record-only mode — the plugin never touches checkout taxes or notices but keeps assessing eligibility and capturing EUR figures, for stores whose VAT is charged by an external tax service. See Checkout VAT.
  • Import VAT rates — the one-click import that fills the IOSS Import VAT tax class with each member state’s standard rate. Re-running updates rows in place. Until you run it, no VAT can be charged.

Customer notices

Both notices are optional and their texts fully editable:

  • Eligible notice — shown when destination VAT is charged; default along the lines of “Price includes EU VAT — no surprises at delivery.”
  • Excluded notice — shown when no EU VAT is charged; the default explains that import VAT and duties are collected on delivery and mentions the EUR 3 per item flat customs duty in force since 1 July 2026. If you edit this text, keep it honest about delivery-time charges — surprised customers refuse parcels.

Marketplaces

  • Marketplace orders — how imported marketplace orders are identified so they are excluded as deemed-supplier sales. Works together with the ioss_is_marketplace_order filter for importer-specific wiring. See Marketplaces and B2B.

VAT data source

  • VAT data API URL — empty by default, meaning the plugin uses only its bundled, effective-dated member-state rate dataset. The Use Sellinor’s rates feed button next to the field fills in Sellinor’s maintained feed; you can also point it at your own URL. When set, the plugin refreshes rate data weekly, validates it, and promotes rate changes by effective date, with an admin notice when a change lands. The request carries nothing about your store.

Separately from this optional feed, the plugin fetches the ECB’s public daily exchange-rate file once a day — required for the EUR 150 test on non-EUR stores. That fetch has no setting; see Currency conversion.

Notifications

  • Enable filing reminders — master toggle for the deadline emails (14/7/1 days before each monthly deadline, plus nil-return reminders).
  • Recipient email — defaults to the store admin address.

Subject, heading, and HTML/plain-text format are managed on the WooCommerce side under WooCommerce → Settings → Emails → IOSS filing reminder. See Filing reminders.

Tools

  • Re-run setup wizard — walks the five steps again with current values prefilled.
  • Recalculate — rebuilds the monthly aggregates from the captured order meta. Order meta is the source of truth; the monthly tables are rebuildable, so this is the safe fix after imports or bulk changes.

Product-level settings

One setting lives on the product, not this screen: the Excise goods checkbox — see Excise goods. Pro adds per-product HS code and country-of-origin fields — see Customs data.
