Email notifications
Overview
The free plugin sends one decisive email: an alert when your cross-border B2C sales reach 100% of the EUR 10,000 threshold, so the change in your VAT obligations never catches you by surprise. Earlier warnings at 70% and 90% and a monthly digest are part of the Pro add-on.
The threshold-reached alert
When your tracked total (orders plus manual adjustments) reaches EUR 10,000 for a year, the plugin sends the OSS threshold alert email. It is sent once per calendar year — refunds dipping the total back under the line do not re-arm it.
The alert is a standard WooCommerce email, so you can adjust its subject, heading, and format (or disable just this email) under WooCommerce → Settings → Emails → OSS threshold alert.
Rates no longer required
A second email applies only if you used the Pro automatic destination rates feature: when a recalculation finds your sales below the threshold for both the current and the previous year, and destination rates were previously auto-applied, you receive a “Destination VAT rates may no longer be required” email. The plugin never removes VAT rates automatically — the email (and a matching dashboard notice) prompts you to review your tax settings yourself.
Recipient
Both emails go to the Notification email address configured under WooCommerce → One Stop Shop → Settings → Notifications — a single address, defaulting to the site admin email. If the stored address ever becomes unusable, alerts fall back to the site admin email rather than being dropped.
Turning notifications off
The Email notifications setting (Enabled/Disabled) on the same Settings tab controls all of the plugin’s threshold emails. Note that disabling notifications only suppresses the emails — threshold tracking, the crossed-state latch, and Pro auto-rates behavior continue regardless.
More levels with Pro
The Settings tab lists every notification type and its availability:
| Notification | Trigger | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Threshold reached | Sales reach 100% of EUR 10,000 | Free |
| Rates no longer required | Both years below threshold after recalculation | Free |
| 70% threshold alert | Sales reach 70% | Premium |
| 90% threshold alert | Sales reach 90% | Premium |
| Monthly digest | 1st of each month | Premium |
The 70%/90% early warnings and the monthly digest ship with the Pro add-on. There is no configurable warning percentage or digest frequency — the levels are fixed.
If emails are not arriving
Check that notifications are Enabled and the address is valid in Settings, then verify your site can send mail at all — WordPress relies on wp_mail(), which is unreliable on many hosts without an SMTP plugin. See Troubleshooting for the full checklist. Remember the threshold alert also has its own enable toggle under WooCommerce → Settings → Emails.
